SHERWOOD LUMBER OPENS OFFICE IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN SUFFOLK

Sherwood Lumber will relocate their New London, Connecticut operations staff to a 2,000 square foot office in historic downtown Suffolk. The Hampton Roads office, located at 346 North Main Street, just north of the Suffolk Seaboard Station Museum, will open in July.

Initially, the office will be the home of two Sherwood Lumber employees with plans to expand to an estimated twelve over the next several months. Guy Hannum, Sherwood Lumber’s Operations Manager, and his assistant, Kevin Anderson, are excited about making the move to Suffolk and enjoying the quality of life offered here. Andy Goodman, President of Sherwood Lumber commented, “After 50 years in business, I see the southeast as a primary region of focus for our continued growth over the next 50 years.”
Sherwood Lumber received its first shipment of European Spruce dimension lumber from Binder Holz in Germany into Lambert’s Point Docks, Norfolk this past May. Sherwood Lumber is a wholesale distributor of lumber and panel products from Europe, Brazil, Canada and U.S. mills. They are headquartered in Islandia, NY with sales offices in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Washington serving retail lumber and building supply dealers from Maine to Florida.
Sherwood chose Hampton Roads because of Lambert’s Point Docks, a leader in serving shippers, manufacturers and brokers for more than 50 years, as well as the company’s relationship with Norfolk-Southern Railroad.
Lambert’s Point Docks is Virginia’s largest break bulk marine terminal moving more than a half-million tons of cargo annually. This location offers added convenience and service to Sherwood’s customers in the mid-Atlantic region.
Sherwood Lumber chose Suffolk because the new office offers close proximity to the port and excellent quality of life. “We are extremely pleased that Sherwood Lumber has decided to relocate their operations staff to downtown Suffolk,” commented Suffolk Mayor Bobby Ralph. “They will be a great addition to the growing number of businesses to locate within the downtown area, and we look forward to building a long lasting relationship on their endeavors in our city."For more information, please call Catherine Wright, Marketing Manager, at 631-232-9191 ext. 108.
