Sherwood Lumber Increases Northeast Distribution with the New Onsite Rail Spur

Palmer, MA, June 6th, 2013 – After receiving a grant from the State Department of Transportation’s industrial access program to support a rail spur project at their Palmer Massachusetts location, Sherwood Lumber furthered the project by allocating it's own resources to the campaign. The project will improve the main New England Central Railroad line project. This project will improve the main New England Central Railroad line, which runs from the Vermont and Quebec border to New London, Connecticut, improving transportation not only to Sherwood Lumber, but also to all businesses neighboring the rail line.

Manage Thy Risk

With all the headlines of U.S. real estate roaring back, combined with a solid Asian appetite and reports of producers handsome earnings, following seven years of painful rightsizing, it should come as no surprise that production will respond. Upon quick review of production stats we can see that the combined production of the major producing regions is up over 10% YOY and to add to this tax free shipments to the US from Canada is up on average 15% in the first 4 months of this year, versus the last 4 of 2012. It’s a pretty safe bet to believe that we now have adequate production for this moment but don’t get lulled into the idea that painful market moves are behind us.

Palmer, Amherst projects win $500,000 to improve rail lines from Massachusetts Department of Transportation

Thanks to grants from the state Department of Transportation's industrial rail access program, Sherwood Lumber received funding for a rail spur project to improve business operations in Palmer, and a segment of the New England Central Railroad in Amherst will be refurbished.

The $500,000 industrial rail access program grants were announced last week by Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray and MassDOT Secretary and chief executive officer Richard A. Davey.

2013 Mid-Year Report From Sherwood Lumber

Long Island, NY, May 24, 2013 - The first half of this year has turned out to be eventful for Sherwood Lumber and the industry in general.  The first five months showed some of the widest price fluctuations that the industry has experienced as the value of lumber changed from day to day. In the first quarter, the industry encountered significant price escalation followed by a precipitous decline in April and May.  While the price fluctuation has been extreme, the unit demand has been far more secure.

Sherwood Lumber Announces Expansion of Its Portland Trading Group

Long Island, NY, March 25, 2013 – Sherwood Lumber is happy to announce the hiring of John Percin, Rob Turk and the rest of their trader group and staff formerly of Talon Forest. Their employment will start with Sherwood in early April 2013 and will more than double the size of Sherwood’s presence in the Portland market.
